Aventura 2 Won't Charge
The unit suddenly won't charge. The charging port has been taped shut so it's very unlikely there's any damage or dirt in there. I've tried two different chargers that work on other devices.

When dealing with usb charged devices that will not charge I recommend to use an usb charger tester, to see if it isn't charging at all, trickle charging etc. Something like this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=usb+charger+tester
Those old devices need chargers with a maximum of 2.4A current, better only 1A max. Newer chargers might not allways work with it.

Thanks for your reply. The charger I'm using is the one the unit came with and it's been fine for five months, then a couple of days ago I plugged it in and nothing happened. The charger will charge other devices and a different charger that also works will not charge this device. It was at about 30% battery when I plugged it in and I've tried leaving it plugged in for a few hours to see if anything happens - nothing.

Good, since you said you are out of warrenty we'll try to find a way without involving Compe.
1) Did you try another cable
2) If yes try again with another cable
3) If still not charging, chances are that the charging component of the unit has been blown. Since you can remove the Aventura2 battery, you can charge it externally via an universal Li-on charger.
Like this:
this:

or this

It is not optimal but you could still use the device.

Thanks. It's 100% not the cable. It's not out of warranty and I was about to send it back because of other faults but they magically cured themselves. Software update? I want to avoid sending the unit back because a) I need it and b) if they replace it I've lost a map download. So I think I'll take your advice and try an external charger.

I might send it for repair but I need it for the next couple of weeks. I spent £200 downloading OS maps for the whole of Britain and you can install them on up to three devices. I've installed them on my Aventura, my laptop and I'm thinking of buying a smaller GPS for my bike. If the unit has to be replaced, I've lost that third download. I've already ascertained that from TwoNav.
I had a look at those universal chargers but I couldn't see any of them in use with the type of battery in my Aventura. Do you know that it would fit?

Hello
For this battery technology, you absolutely need a charger capable of delivering 1 to 2 times the value of the battery capacity.
The "deeply discharged" battery charges with a high current during the first phase and then it goes to a low current.
If you have "washed" your battery, for example by going for a deep discharge (low cell voltage threshold), you must double the charging current to recover the battery.
As the battery is 6000 ma/h it must be recharged with a charger which delivers at least 6 A, and to cover the "washing" of the cells it would be necessary to have 12 A to 18 A.
Charging these GPS devices after a deep discharge with a charger less than 6A will kill the battery.
It is better to avoid waiting until the battery is completely discharged before recharging it?
Sources of this information: I drew on the technical specifications of the charging components (There are many false ideas circulating on the WEB), which explain how to implement these components.
Best regards

Thanks for all the helpful messages. It is worth noting that the chargers recommended by Uwe B. do not charge Aventura batteries. It is also worth noting that I sent the unit back to TwoNav 16/11/23 and TwoNav have confirmed that they have received it but I am still waiting for it to be returned. I'd say that is appalling customer service.

I have the same problem with my Trail2. Suddenly refuses to charge.
Unit is working fine and I have around 70% charge left, but once that is drained unit is kaput! Only had it just over 2 years with very little use and paid to have all OS maps on it. So really am disappointed. Have contacted 2 nav who want me to ship it to Spain at my cost plus a minimum of 29 euros even if they cannot fix it. Not sure what to do as can’t seem to find anyone around here who will touch it. -
I finally got mine back yesterday. The problem was that the pins in the charging port were bent. It's working OK now and my maps are still there but the connection isn't smooth when I plug the charger in so I'm concerned that it could happen again. I'm going to be extra careful with it: if I have any more problems I'll post on here again.

Hi,
The Cross USB-C socket regularly fails on many units. This problem comes from the fact that it is poorly wired. In reality, Twonav used an USB-C jack, but inside it's just USB-A. For example, if you want to use an external battery with an integrated USB-C cable, this may not work: you have to downgrade the USB-C connection to USB-A (with a hub for example).
So I think I understand that this problem would also exist with the Aventura2.
Since the plug is not correctly (certainly insufficiently protected) wired internally, this seems to cause an irreversible failure in certain circumstances. The only solution is repair by Twonav.Best regards,

Another thought: have you tried cleaning the charging port on your device, just in case there's any debris stuck in there that the tape missed? You can use a compressed air can or a toothpick (basket random).

Hello,
When you need to remove the USB cord, always remember to remove the plug from the opposite side (Sector) to the GPS. Why, when we open an electrical connection, there will always be an extra breaking current (the inductive effect of the charge opposes this breaking), but an extra breaking current can carry much more energy than when normal operation which can damage or destroy the connectors if they are small (or small pins) and the current is high. An extra current rupture can be x 10, x 100, x 1000, it is very brief and intense. This can be the cause of GPS connector faults; on the other side of the cable, at worst the cord will be damaged.
Best Regards
