Land Support for Apple Silicon

    Hi,

You should know that Land, even in x86 version, needs to be rewritten to use the Metal library instead of OpenGL. This is the main reason for performance and functionality degradation of Land on mac.
And we are still waiting, we Mac users, for this adaptation to be made. This should have been done 5 years ago, when Apple announced the end of support for OpenGL !
But we see that neither Metal nor ARM processor support seems to be coming.
I am personally very very worried about the future of Land on Mac.
And I'm afraid that Land will soon become totally unusable on Mac with the evolution of macOS and ARM processors.

    Best regards,

    Hello Bernard
You are right. The missing support for modern GFX API's is the main reason. And this was the point for me to revisit the Land prefs. There is still the opportunity to activate OpenGL in View/General. The map ist working much faster instantly. OpenGL ist still there in Ventura.

But it's necessary to reactivate it after every Land restart :-(.

    Greetings
    Marcus

    Hi,

For me (Monterey), if I reactivate OpenGL in view/general, Land crashes immediately !

    So, unusable.

    Best regards,

Land being an x86 binary might contribute to the performance disparity, as the M1 Pro chip's architecture is based on ARM, which requires translation layers to run x86 geometry dash meltdown. In some cases, this can lead to suboptimal performance compared to native Apple Silicon applications.

    Hello Cheryl,

This performance problem in Rosetta2 emulation is a false problem concerning Land. Firstly because Land is not a program that requires enormous CPU resources. And also, it should be noted that Silicon processors are significantly more efficient. So if you lose 20% because of emulation on a machine that goes twice as fast, it's not a big deal, it still goes faster.
The real problem with Land under macOS is that it hasn't been updated for a long time, that for even longer it has had fewer features than the Windows version because of OpenGL, and that its development seems to have stopped, both on Intel and Silicon for which the migration has never started...

    Sincerely,
