Land 9 - Mac Ventura
Hi
Just about to buy a Terra GPS, but thought I would try out the software first - Land 9 seems very slow and cumbersome, especially as I am running it on a top end Mac Studio (complex photo editing with very large RAW files is a breeze) so power and memory should not be an issue. Any ideas if I'm doing something wrong or if not, then it will be a Garmin device....

Hi,
You should know that Land is not optimized for Silicon Macs. It will therefore run with Rosetta2. Land on macOS is less functional than on Windows (no 3D, not very good map rendering, ...). All the problems of Land on macOS come from the fact that Land does not (still not) use the Metal library, but still OpenGL, which has not been supported by Apple for more than 4 or 5 years. Regarding your Mac Studio, you must already try to install it, see if it works, it seems that some have failed to install it.
That doesn't mean you'll be happier with a Garmin, on which you can't easily create and install your own cartography (for free), and the Basecamp companion software works primarily with the cartography sold by Garmin, which is a disability.
Note that it is perfectly possible to use a Twonav GPS with a software other than Land, there are several very good ones for macOS.
Best regards,

"which route planning software would you suggest"
I use different softwares, depending on the need or the moment... on Mac, for example, QMapShack, GpsPrune, GPXeditor, RouteConverter, Cartograph Maps, Land (it works well enough for me), and online, gpx.studio...
It depends on your needs and level of expertise.
