In detail: Create and join track variants
In Land9 it is possible to create variants of a track, which can be very useful to have different alternatives for a route, for example to mark a shortcut or an optional visit.
Normally variants of a track will join back onto the main track, but this was not possible until Land 9.2.
Steps to follow to create a variant of a track:
- Open a track.
- Open de track editor.
- Create a new variant (right click > Create variant).
- Add points to the variant.
- Create a last point of the variant over the point of the main track where the variant will join.
- Join the variant on the main track (right click > Join variant).
- The junction point will be created, so now the variant is created and joint.
Notes:
- The tracks with variants (and junctions), can be navigated with TwoNav from version 5.1 and above.
- The variants system is now ready for a simple track structure, where the variants are successively created and joint.
It is not yet prepared to create subvariants, or go backwards on a track.
So if complex structures are made with variants, it is possible that the system shows some suboptimal behaviour.
