Importing Garmin Custom Maps into TwoNav GPS and Land
Is it possible to import Garmin Custom Maps (*.kmz format) into an Aventura 2+ or into Land software? If so, how is it done? I've got several from DiscoveryWalks and find them very good in conjunction with their guidebooks.
Thanks in anticipation

The Garmin map format is a proprietary format and is not recognized by TwoNav.
- If it is a card sold by Garmin, this is impossible; these cards can only be activated for the GPS for which they were sold.
- If they are maps for Garmin but open source (Free) yes it is possible, since the basic data of these maps comes from OSM which is itself open source.

Thank you both for the very quick replies.
Charles, the maps are not from Garmin, they are from DiscoveryWalks, a UK company that produces guide books and maps. I have bought them used them on a Garmin Oregon.
I have just bought my Aventura 2+ and am learning how to use it and also Land. When I try to load it into the GPS, it does not appear on the Maps list even though it is in the folder with the other maps (GB OS maps). I assume this is because the Aventura 2+ will not read *.kmz files, that is why I wanted to load it into Land to convert it.
Gert, I tried to Import the map but it did not show in the folder in Land so I could not select it. After reading your reply, I simply Opened the map and it did load into Land. However, it is 'scrambled'. I have shown a screenshot below.
Is there any way to 'unscramble' the map?
Thanks

Hello,
From what I understand you want to re-use relatively old “Garmin” cards, it’s a choice!
We can install in Land or GPS
either the official maps sold by TwoNav or OS in Great Britain.
Either free cards,
- MOBAC is a tool that allows you to create free map tiles for TwoNav (And others..). The principle is to install a script in MOBAC which gives access to an online map, then from this map to create a tile or several tiles in Rmap or MBtile SqLite format for GPS. Land allowing these tiles to be merged into a catalog (The map).
- Land also allows you to create vector maps from data imported via BBike for example.

Hi
Thanks again for the fast replies.
These maps are not Garmin maps on an SD card, they have been bought and downloaded from the Discovery Walks website. They are designed for a Garmin GPS.
I will try using MOBAC to transform them, thanks for the advise.
I have just tried opening the custopm map without the base map and it's still 'scrambled. I will try saving as RMAP later today.
Thanks again for your advise, as I said I'm new to TwoNav GPS and Land and also to converting maps. I'm 73 years old but still lots to learn!!
I had my first walk using the Aventura yesterday and found it excellent.
Thanks

Hi Martin, Mobac is no tool to convert the maps you already bought. It is a tool to create maps from various online sources into local maps for your device. If I read it correctly you are trying to convert a Mallorca map in kmz format into a Twonav rmap format. That can be done but the more clever approach would be letting mobac download the actual card from an online source like this (fell free to zoom in):
https://www.ign.es/iberpix/visor/
Mobac out of the box can't do it, you need to expand the mapsources manually or download them from a (well known) source.

Hi All
Thank you very much for all your time and advice on this problem.
I have now solved the problem using MAPC2MAPC, which can read the *.kmz file and convert it to a *.rmap file (amongst many other formats). This loaded into LAND with no problem onto the correct place on the base map. I have copied the rmap file onto the Aventura 2+ and searched for a waypoint on a walk in Mallorca, the map opened with the waypoint in the correct place.
The trail, unregistered version, of MAPC2MAPC writes red crosses all over the converted map so I will now buy the full version, which at £15 is a bargain as I will be able to convert all my Garmin custom maps for use on the Aventura 2+.
I hope that this information will be of use to other users of TwoNav GPS units.
Thanks again.
