One of the great advantages of Land is that it allows you to connect directly to several online route services. Thanks to these services, you can browse and download routes created by user communities from all over the world.
This is especially useful when you are planning an outing in an unfamiliar area or want to compare popular routes to make sure you choose the best route.
Types of servers
In Land, you will find two main categories of servers depending on where the routes come from:
My online routes
These are popular platforms such as Komoot, Strava, Suunto, IGN Rando, where you need to have a personal account to access them. Once you link your account to TwoNav, you will be able to access all your routes and activities from Land, including those you have created as well as those you have found and saved to your account.
Important: The connection method varies depending on the platform. Find out how to link them by reading this article: Connecting platforms to TwoNav
Discover online routes
These are open servers such as GO by TwoNav, OpenRunner, UtagawaVTT and FFCT, where you can search for and download routes from other users without needing a user account.
Accessing route servers
Follow these steps to connect to any of these services or platforms:
In the map window, center the search area and zoom in on the area where you want to find routes.
-
You can access the routes in two ways:
From the data tree:
Click 'Routes' and then expand 'My online routes' or 'Discover online routes', depending on the content you want to open in Land.
When you expand an online route service in the data tree, its properties will open. This gives you access to its information and settings.
The functions available in the properties window vary depending on the service. For example, in TwoNav Public Routes or OpenRunner, you will find:-
Filters (applied when refreshing the list):
- Sport
- Minimum/maximum distance
- Minimum/maximum ascent
- ‘Reset filter’ function to return to the original settings
-
Refresh list. This button generates the list again according to the current filter conditions.
It also takes the current map view into account. This means that if you move the map to a different area, you must click the ‘Refresh’ button to obtain the new list.
This button is also available in the service's context menu (right-click) in the data tree.
-
Filters (applied when refreshing the list):
- If you click a route in the list or on the map, its properties will be displayed.
Here you can see:
- Properties such as name, description, distance, author, etc.
- Buttons: Here you can see:
- Properties such as name, description, distance, author, etc.
- Buttons:
- Zoom here: Centers the starting point of the route on the map.
- Download: Downloads and opens the route track. You can also do this by double-clicking the route in the data tree or on the map, as usual.
- Open link: Opens the route's web page in your Internet browser so you can view its full content (description, photos, etc.) or share it with other users.
- If you want to adjust the search again using the filters or search another area of the map, you can display the service properties again by clicking it in the data tree.
- As usual in Land, most functions are also available from the right-click context menu. This allows you to perform actions such as opening properties, downloading, centering on screen or opening filters by right-clicking the objects.
From the map:
-
You can also search for routes directly from the map. The starting points of each route will appear on it. Move the cursor over a point to see the route name.
Double-click a route to display its entire path on the map. Double-clicking will also download the route. From that moment on, you will not only see it on the map, but it will also appear in the 'Routes' section of the data tree.
If you want to continue exploring and discover routes in other areas, simply move the map to the desired area. Once the area is displayed, right-click the service in the data tree and select 'Refresh'. Land will show you the routes available for that new area.
If you want to hide a service's routes from the map, uncheck the eye icon that appears next to the platform name in the data tree.
Saving downloaded routes
Please note that downloaded routes will not be saved automatically in your data folder, but in a temporary folder. If you want to keep a route, right-click it and select 'File'. You will then see several options for saving it:
Copy to my data folder: Land will save the route in the root ‘Data’ folder.
Move to folder: choose a subfolder within ‘Data’ where you want to save the route.
Save as: customize the name and select a folder on your computer where you want to save the route.
Note: In addition to online route services, in Land 11 you can also use the AI search tool to find information and help you search for and plan routes.
