Creating a map of a specific area with Land can be done using any map without copyright. However, it is especially useful with online maps because they are very large maps that give us many options when choosing the area we need. Land offers a selection of online maps from different countries and types (topo, ortho, OSM...) that open up a wide range of possibilities.
How do I do it?
The steps to create your custom map are as follows:
-
Open the online map (or any other raster map without copyright)
- Activate the selection tool.
-
Select the area and click on "Create new map for this area".
It is recommended to select a small area, as the larger the area, the longer it will take to generate the map.
- Select the map scale
The difference between "Maximum Zoom" and "Current Zoom" lies in the level of detail with which the map of the selected area will be generated.
Choosing Maximum Zoom downloads the map with the highest possible level of detail for the selected area. This means you will see all available cartographic elements with high precision, but the resulting file will be larger and its creation may take more than 24 hours.
Selecting Current Zoom generates the map with the same level of detail you see on your screen at that moment. This way, the file will be lighter and created very quickly, though with less detail compared to maximum zoom.
If you select Current Zoom, the system will show information about the new map before creating it: pixel size, scale, and projection to be applied. You will then be asked to confirm whether you want to proceed with creating the map.
- If you have files such as waypoints, routes, or tracks loaded, you can choose whether to overlay them on the resulting map.
-
Name the map and choose the format (we recommend rmap for its features and compatibility across all platforms).
-
Wait (it may take hours if you selected a very large area)
- You now have a new map that does not require a connection to work and can be loaded into your TwoNav!
