Splitting a track into laps allows for a more detailed analysis of the route, identifying different stages of the journey and facilitating the comparison of specific sections.
This feature is especially useful when you want to:
- Review performance in different parts of the route.
- Compare laps with different characteristics (ascents, descents, terrain).
- Generate more precise reports on each lap of the activity.
Laps can be created manually, to mark exactly the points you are interested in, or automatically, following criteria such as distance, time, or special activity conditions.
Note: Splitting a track into laps allows you to get the most out of your data, whether for sports analysis, route planning, or simply to better understand how your journey develops.
Important: Laps are not displayed on the map if the color gradient is enabled. To see them, disable this option from the button bar.
Manual Laps
Manual laps are those marked by the user, selecting the exact points where they want to establish a lap change within the track. This allows full control over the division of the route and facilitates the analysis of specific sections.
How to mark a lap change
- In the map window, right-click on the point of the track where you want to start a new lap.
- Select Laps> Change lap here.
Once done, the laps will be distinguished in:
- Map: shown with colors or visual separations.
- Data tree: each lap appears as an independent element.
- Graph: shown with colors or visual separations..
Tip: In TwoNav, you can mark laps live while performing the activity. These laps are saved automatically and can be analyzed later in Land.
Modifying manual laps
Delete
Deletes the entire section of the selected lap.
Right-click on the lap in the data tree or on the map and select Laps > Delete lap.
Save as
Creates a new track file containing only that lap.
Right-click on the lap in the data tree or on the map and select Laps > Save lap as.
Move start and end points
Adjust the boundaries of a lap to refine its analysis.
Right-click on the track point within the lap on the map and select Laps > Start/End of lap at this point, depending on what you want to do.
Merge laps
- Merge with the previous or next lap: Combines the selected lap with its immediate neighbor.
Right-click on the lap in the data tree or on the map and select Laps > Merge with previous/next lap. Merge all laps of the track: Joins all existing laps into a single continuous lap.
Right-click on the lap in the data tree or on the map and select Laps > Merge all laps.
Automatic Laps (AutoLaps)
Automatic laps are calculated automatically based on predefined criteria, without the user needing to mark points manually. They are especially useful for analyzing routes or repetitive activities where measuring regular laps is of interest.
Criteria for automatic laps
- By distance: A lap is created every certain distance, for example, every kilometer.
- By time: A lap is generated every time interval, such as every hour.
- Thermals and transitions: Specialized function for free flight that distinguishes spiral climb laps and transition laps.
How to activate AutoLaps
- Menu Tools > AutoLaps
- From Preferences. Access from File > Preferences
- Context menu of the track
Note: Activating AutoLaps affects all loaded tracks and hides existing manual laps. To view manual laps again, select Original laps.
Additional settings
- Distance or time intervals: can be configured from Preferences > Tracks to suit your needs.
Tip: AutoLaps is ideal for systematic comparisons between laps of similar activities, such as evaluating pace per kilometer in long runs or analyzing the duration of ascent laps in mountain routes.
Laps in the data tree
All laps, whether manual or automatic, can be viewed in the data tree of the track. This allows you to:
- See the complete structure of the track divided into laps.
- Consult relevant information for each lap (distance, ascent, time, etc.).
- Quickly analyze route laps without needing to review the entire map.
Tip: The second line columns in the data tree can be customized: right-click on a lap 2d line data, or from Preferences > View > Data tree.
Lap properties
Laps function as small tracks and share many of their properties:
- Lap details: View all recorded information.
- Visual appearance: Change color, thickness, or line style to better differentiate them on the map.
- Name and description: Assign a name to each lap by editing the Description field.
Lap analysis
The Lap Analysis function opens a table with a complete breakdown of all the laps of the track, showing their main metrics and facilitating comparison between them.
- Access by right-click Laps > Lap analysis
Tip: This table is ideal for generating reports, reviewing progress, or detecting laps that require special attention on complex routes.
