What is a subtrack and what is it for?
A subtrack is a useful tool for quickly marking and analyzing a specific section of a track without modifying the original track. It's ideal for partial analysis, comparing segments, or extracting specific information from a route.
Although its functionality is similar to laps, using subtracks does not alter the track as segment marking does. This allows you to work more freely without risking changes to the original track structure.
How to create a subtrack?
The fastest way to create a subtrack is by using the selection tool on the map. Follow these steps:
- Activate the selection tool (usually represented by a cursor or rectangle icon).
- Draw a rectangle with the mouse over the area of the track you want to analyze.
- When you release the click, a context menu with several options will appear.
Select "Create subtrack".
The subtrack will be visually highlighted over the original track, making it easy to identify on the map.
What can you do with a subtrack?
Once created, right-click on the subtrack to access a set of useful options:
- Edit subtrack start/end points: Manually adjust the selected segment for a more precise analysis.
- View subtrack data: Opens a window with detailed statistics: distance, elevation, estimated time, average speed, etc.
- Delete subtrack: Removes the current subtrack. Note: this does not delete the points from the original track, only the subtrack.
Save as: Creates a new track file (.trk) containing only the selected subtrack points.
