Land can act as a GPS for all kinds of outdoor activities. This way, you can continue enjoying all the tools of Land while practicing your favorite activity, for example, 4x4 using Land as a navigator on a laptop. To use Land as a navigator, you must connect a GPS device to the laptop. Once detected, Land will provide you with all kinds of real-time information.
Connect a GPS for navigation
To start navigating with Land, follow these steps:
- Connect your GPS to the laptop.
If Land does not detect your device, check these sections to establish the connection:'Main menu > Tools > Connection > Customize connected device settings'
'Main menu > File > Preferences > Devices'
- Once Land recognizes your device, all the information that the GPS detects during the route will be transferred in real time to Land.
Once detected, click ‘Main menu > Navigation > Activate GPS’ and select your destination.
Navigate to a specific place: Right-click on the map location where you want to go and select 'Navigate here'. If you want to navigate to a waypoint, right-click on the waypoint from the data tree or on the map, and select 'Go'.
Navigate a track: Right-click on the track from the data tree or on the map, and select 'Go'.
Navigation configuration
Before starting navigation, it is advisable to configure some visual aspects of navigation such as the icon of the pointer that will mark our position on the map, the direction line that marks the destination, or the radius that marks our current position on the map. To do this, click 'Main menu > File > Preferences > Navigation'.
Control navigation
Once navigation has started, Land will show you an additional button bar; use it to manage navigation using the following buttons:
- Recenter map: Re-center to the current position.
- Center map on the current position
- Do not move the map
- Show more map ahead: Your current position will be placed at the bottom of the screen leaving more space to view the map.
- Center the map when it reaches 10% of the screen edge: Your current position will only move 10% from the center of the screen, and when that happens, the map will automatically re-center on your current position.
- Map orientation: North up (the map will not rotate, always oriented north) or Track up (the map will rotate to align with your current heading).
- Record track: 'Triplog' is the command that controls the recording of your route. Possible states: recording, paused, or stopped.
- Mark waypoint: Creates a new waypoint at your current coordinates.
- Automaps: Land automatically opens the best map based on your current position.
- Variable ring: Adds more rings around your position. Define the radius of the inner ring and the number of successive rings that will be evenly spaced from the inner ring.
- Fixed ring and parallels: A circle will be drawn surrounding your position.
- View velocity and acceleration vectors: Three vectors will indicate your velocity and your tangential and normal acceleration.
- View turning radius: A circle will represent the course you should follow if you continue with the same turning radius.
- Screenshot: Takes a photo of the current content of the map window.
- Record video: Creates a video file with the current content of the map window.
- View navigation window: A side data page will be displayed with various real-time data fields.
- Aim at next waypoint: When navigating a route, it will head toward the waypoint following the waypoint it is currently heading to.
- Aim at previous waypoint: When navigating a route, it will head toward the waypoint preceding the waypoint it is currently heading to.
Interact with the data page
During your navigation, Land will continuously record data of interest; this information (data fields) is usually very useful for analysis and comparison (speed, altitude, distances...). The data page offers you an additional space where you can review a greater number of data fields. If you right-click right-click on the data fields, you can use several functions associated with those fields. The data page can be configured according to your preferences by customizing Land to fit your needs.
You can also change a field directly by opening its contextual menu and selecting ‘Change this field’.
Set alert alarms
During your navigation, Land can alert you when you exceed certain limits defined by yourself. For example, you can set an alarm that appears when you exceed 100 km/h, or when you reach 200 m in altitude. Alarms are configured before starting the route by following these instructions:
- In the navigation window, right-click on the data field where you want to associate an alarm (for example: speed).
- Select ‘Set an alarm’ and set a maximum and/or minimum value for each field. If no value is set, these alarms will be automatically disabled and will have no effect during navigation.
- Also determine a repeat interval for each alarm.
Alarms will automatically appear in a window during navigation according to the preferences you have set.
Configure additional options from ‘Main menu > File > Options > Navigation > Waypoint alarm’.
