To see the overall functioning of the Land data tree, check the article Data Tree.
In this article, we will expand the information about interactions with tracks in the tree:
Waypoint Files
As we know, waypoints are organized into waypoint files. A waypoint file usually contains the waypoints of the same geographic area. This structure is reflected in the data tree; under 'Stored Waypoints' we see the waypoint files.
To view the waypoints contained in that waypoint file, we must open the file. Once opened, it can be collapsed and expanded to show/hide its waypoints. Double-clicking on the waypoint file name also collapses and expands it.
Interaction with Map and Properties
Map
By double-clicking a waypoint (or right-clicking and selecting 'Zoom here'), we center the waypoint in the map window. If we want to zoom to the set of waypoints included in a waypoint file, we can center them by right-clicking and selecting 'Zoom here'.
If we click on a waypoint, it will be selected and highlighted on the map:
While working with our waypoints, we can also show/hide the waypoints over the map by clicking the 'eye' icon from the data tree. We can show/hide any of the 3 levels in which waypoints are organized:
- Individual waypoint
- Waypoint file
- All waypoints from all waypoint files
Drag and Drop
In addition to all the previous actions, you can also drag and drop items from the data tree to perform different functions:
-
Drag a waypoint from one waypoint file to another: Doing so moves the waypoint to the other waypoint file.
-
Drag a waypoint to a track: The waypoint is added as a roadbook point of the track (if the track is nearby).
-
Drag the waypoint from the tree to a new point on the map: Doing so moves the current position of the waypoint and it will be located at the new map position.
Properties
If the properties window is open (button 'Properties' on the button bar or right-click the element and select 'Properties'), it will show the properties of any selected element. This means we can successively select one waypoint or another to compare their detailed properties quickly.
Multi-selection
If we want to apply simultaneous actions such as saving, closing, or deleting, we can also select multiple waypoints or waypoint files at once. Multi-selection of elements is useful to move several waypoints from one waypoint file to another, or from a waypoint file to a track to add them as roadbook points.
To select multiple elements, follow these instructions:
-
First, click on the first element to select it.
- Then, hold down the 'Shift' or 'Control/Command' key and click as needed:
-
'Shift' key: Selecting a second element will select it and all the elements in between the first and last.
-
'Control' key (on Windows) / 'Command' (on Mac): You can select different elements even if they are not consecutive.
-
-
Right-clicking will open the context menu to perform an action on all selected elements:
Multi-selection and Properties
If multiple elements are selected, for example waypoints or tracks, and their properties are shown, changes made in properties will affect all selected elements. That is, if three waypoints are selected and an icon is assigned in properties, all three waypoints will have that icon.
