Navigation with waypoints is different from navigating a track where you see on screen the path you have to follow to reach the destination.
In this type of routes, we only have the coordinates of the waypoints we want to go to, so the GPS will only provide us with the heading and distance, as well as estimated times to reach the waypoint.
They are commonly used in aviation and nautical contexts, although they are also widely used in sports events (on land) where participants have to orient themselves and choose the best route to reach these mandatory waypoints.
How to create a track with waypoints
Follow these instructions:
- Create a new track. Long press on the point where you want to start the route. The 'Pin' mode will open. Select the option 'Start new track here' from the 'More options' button.
- Modify the properties you want in the window, and click on the 'Accept' button.
- Add your waypoints, as many as you need.
- Close the track editing.
- Open the 'Pin' mode from the 'More options' button.
- Select the track point and add a roadbook point from the 'More Options' button.
- Do the same with the rest of the points. Remember you can change the properties of your roadbook points as you like.
- Close the track editor, and you're done!
Navigate the Track with Waypoints
A straight line to the next waypoint will be shown, and we will see the distance separating us from it.
When we reach a waypoint, the navigation will automatically jump to the next one.
If it doesn't, we can use the 'previous waypoint/next waypoint' buttons on the button bar.
