Land allows you to automatically create a track using information from a routable vector map through the FastTrack tool, which speeds up the process and facilitates route planning.
To use FastTrack, the map must be routable, meaning it contains network information that allows automatic route calculation. OSM and TomTom maps are compatible. OSM maps are especially recommended for outdoor activities, as they include a wide network of paths and trails in addition to streets and roads.
Routes are generated according to user preferences: type of road, restrictions, or automatic maneuvers at intersections (which become roadbook points). These options are configured from Land's Preferences to plan more precise routes with clear alerts at each maneuver.
Here you can see a sample video of using FastTrack:
Preliminary steps
Before using FastTrack, make sure to complete these steps:
Open a routable map:
Select a compatible vector map (OSM or TomTom)Open the track editor:
Open the track editor to create or modify routesCreate or select a track:
Create a new track (see the article Create a New Track) or select an existing one you want to extend with FastTrack
How to use the FastTrack tool
Once you are in the edit mode of the track you want to extend, FastTrack offers several methods to generate routes automatically:
Right click > FastTrack to here
Right-click on the point where you want to extend the track and select FastTrack to here:
Land will automatically calculate the route from the last point to the selected point:
Tip: You can use FastTrack on any point of the map, even off a path, but results will be more reliable if both the last point and the next one are on some path.
Activate 'FastTrack mode'
To activate FastTrack mode, select the tool from the track editor toolbar:
Once activated, you can use these 2 additional methods:
Control + click:
Hold down the Control key, and click on the place where you want the track to be automatically extended. This is the fastest way to perform FastTrack multiple times consecutively.Arrows at intersections:
Selection arrows appear at each intersection; press the desired arrow to extend the track in that direction to the next intersection:
Here you can see a sample video demonstrating the use of these 2 functions:
Recommendation: Always review the generated route to ensure it matches the path you want to follow.
Configuration of maneuvers and roads
You can configure how Land automatically generates tracks with FastTrack from Preferences > Tracks > FastTrack Edition:
-
Add maneuver points:
Roadbook points are added with the maneuver to perform at each node (intersection), automatically generating a roadbook, which later, during navigation, will alert you of each maneuver to execute:
-
Road restrictions:
Allow or block the use of one-way streets in the opposite direction (useful, for example, in hiking)
Configure the types of roads that can be used: tolls, highways, unpaved ways or ferries.
Copy sections from other Tracks
It is also possible to use FastTrack on other existing tracks, treating them as paths. This allows you to copy entire sections from another track without manually retracing the route:
To learn more about this feature, see the other article Copy parts of an existing track to create a new route.
Undo changes
When generating a track with FastTrack, undesired results may occur, for example:
The track goes through places you don't want
There is no path at that location
Some error in the map
In these cases, you can use the Undo tool (Ctrl + Z on Windows or Cmd + Z on Mac) to revert the last change, just like in other Land functions.
Combining automatic and manual sections
During track creation, it is possible to combine:
Automatic sections generated on routable paths.
Manual sections for areas that do not appear as routable on the map (for example, shortcuts visible in aerial photos).
How to do it:
For off-track areas, activate the Add points tool to freely create points where no routable roads exist:
Once you return to a routable path, you can continue using FastTrack via right-click or in FastTrack mode, as explained above
Illustrative video of combining automatic and manual sections:
Combination with other Maps
FastTrack requires a routable vector map loaded to generate routes, although it can be combined with other open maps:
It is possible to have other maps loaded simultaneously as visual references, for example, topographic maps or aerial images.
You can even hide the routable map, and the roads used for FastTrack calculations will still be those of the routable map, even if it is not visible:
